Jonathon has long had a burden for Japan, where all remaining unchurched areas are in rural areas.
To further prepare to serve on or lead a rural church planting team in the future, Jonathon will enroll in the Rural Japan Church Planter Training Center.
In this four-year hands-on program, he
- will study Japanese,
- under the direction of the team leader, will assist in diverse aspects of the Kita Sanriku Christ Church church plant for the Iwaizumi (including Omoto) Town and adjacent Tanohata, Fudai, and Noda villages in Iwate Prefecture in Northeast Japan;
- be dispatched occasionally short-term to serve with other rural ministries in Japan (mainly North Tohoku) to gain diversity in experience; and
- attend lectures/seminars/discussions to further equip him in rural church planting in the Japan context.
- may also contribute his handyman and truck driving skills on occasion to help in renovations/building associated with the church, housing of team members, and others.
